# LocalSnip Privacy Policy

LocalSnip is a local-first text expander. **We do not collect, sell or share your personal data.
There is no account, no analytics, no tracking and no remote code.**

## What stays on your computer
- **Snippets, folders, settings and backup snapshots** are stored only in your browser's
  `chrome.storage.local` area on this computer. They are never uploaded anywhere — not to us and
  not to any third party. Uninstalling the extension deletes them, so export a JSON/CSV backup if
  you want an off-browser copy.
- **Text you type.** To detect a shortcut, LocalSnip looks at the few characters immediately
  before the caret in the text field you are typing in. This happens in memory, inside your
  browser; nothing is logged, stored or transmitted. Password fields are ignored.
- **Clipboard.** The clipboard is read only at the moment you expand a snippet that contains the
  `{clipboard}` variable, and only to insert it into that snippet. It is never stored or sent.

## The only network requests
LocalSnip works fully offline. The only time it connects to the internet is **if you buy and
activate LocalSnip Pro**:
- Clicking **Buy Pro** opens the checkout page of our payment provider **Creem** (merchant of
  record) in a normal browser tab. Payment details are handled by Creem under its own privacy
  policy (https://www.creem.io/privacy); LocalSnip never sees them.
- When you **activate, re-check or deactivate a license key**, LocalSnip sends the license key and
  a random installation identifier (e.g. `localsnip-48213…`, not linked to your identity) to our
  license validation endpoint, which forwards them to Creem's license API and returns only
  whether the key is active. This is repeated at most every few days to keep the license valid.
  No snippet content, browsing data or personal information is ever included.

## Permissions
- `storage` — save your snippets locally.
- Content script on all sites (`<all_urls>`) — needed so shortcuts expand in any text box you
  choose to type in. It reads only the text near the caret of the focused field.
- `clipboardRead` (optional, off by default) — only requested if you enable it, so `{clipboard}`
  works without per-site prompts.

## Children
LocalSnip is not directed at children under 13 and collects no data from anyone.
